What Is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is a natural state of trance, much like that achieved in meditation and can be induced by concentrating on a single idea or focus. In a therapeutic setting, hypnosis provides a very powerful tool to access subconscious patterns of thought and behaviour and resolve issues that lie beyond the capabilities of conscious resolve.

Modern hypnotherapy utilises the clinically proven techniques of Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), as well as other approaches such as Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) and combines them all with the the medium of the state of trance, to help people make significant positive changes in a relatively short period of time.

Resolving unwelcome habits and thought processes at subconscious level literally helps the parts that other approaches can't reach. Treatment is tailored to each client and a programme of therapy is designed according to your personality, your preferences, and your needs.

How Will I Feel when I am Hypnotised or In a Trance? The state of trance is really very normal. We go in and out of trance all the time, all day, every day, when we are relaxing, watching TV, out for a run - we do it all the time. It's just a very nice, comfortable feeling of relaxation, and where you are completely in control at all times.

Will you be able to make me do things I don't want to? Absolutely not. Some people have seen stage hypnosis - so it's important to realise that stage hypnotists are really very good indeed at spotting people who are up for making a bit of a fool of themselves! That, and the fictional representation of hypnosis through TV, books and stage plays all add to the mythology around it - and it is great entertainment, this idea of mind control - but frankly, it's all complete nonsense!

You will always have total control over what you find acceptable, and what you do. I can't make you do anything, including barking like a dog or clucking like a chicken - unless that is what you want to do!
